Tanarus/ general help

Hi all, I have a few questions I was hoping I could get answered.

I'm trying to hack a multiplayer game called tanarus, available for free at station.sony.com.

I've made some progress but got stuck. I was able to modify the games main dll file (battle.dll) by disassembling and hex editing to get the values I want, but the problem is that the server does a checksum when you log in and redownloads the file. Is there a way to either fake the checksum, or force a modified dll into memory after the game loads the server version into ram?

Alternatively, I was trying to modify values in memory with tsearch. Unfortunatly, this game is very old and CANNOT be minimized at all. Beleive me, I've tried every key shortcut and third party program I could find, Including gameminimizer and dxwnd. Is there a program that will let me look at some memory values without minimizing the game?

Hi jvttlus, welcome to WoGH!

Right. I would personally look at editing in memory, as opposed to modifying a gamefile. You'll save yourself a lot of headache. Now you say you can't minimize or window this game... i'm sure we'll be able to figure something out for that. You enquired about a way of editing variables while not tabbing out. Yes this can be done, through a network server/client system. Cheat engine will do this. You will need a second PC though to do the searching through (which isn't ideal for some). I would recommend you start using Cheat engine or MHS, as Tsearch is very outdated now. The debugger sucks anyway I'll download the game later and have a quick look. Perhaps someone else will too. Perhaps someone already has experience with this game?

Ok, so I had a quick look. DXWnd is out. It causes the game to crash for whatever reason. It is stubborn huh? And that 'battle.dll' checks itself (file crc check) so modifying that isn't the easiest option either. I would look at the network cheating method I mentioned above. You'll need an older version of CE (the latest 5.5 doesn't have the capability), or use TSearch. You have the option to Host and Join in the 'Network' menu there.

Hmm - It might be possible to 'fake' the checksum, depending on how its calculated. I remember reading something about how you could fake some of them years ago... but dont know the particulars. - Something about removing/adding the 'sum' of what you added/removed for your cheat.

Launch tanarus, when you get to the ToS screen don't hit accept yet. Goto your tanarus folder and find "battle.dll" and rename it to whatever. Extract battlehacked.rar to your tanarus folder and rename it to "battle.dll". Now hit accept. Ten bays in all tanks, alot of batteries and like 2532 armor and crits.

Twisted....I got the file once, and screwed it up. Now it says it an only be downloaded 10 times so I'm guessing I was the tenth. Can you email me any info to get it again, or re-post it or something....I had an idea to modify it and improve, if it works i''ll only share with you. Keep this to PM's fellas, if you absolutely 'must' have this. It's a cracked file, and thus we have certain legal concerns that come into place. We can't be using the site as a dumping/sharing ground for stuff like this. Cheers
